Eco-Friendly Commercial Printing

Blog

Prisma has always made the effort to be an environmentally friendly commercial print company. Environmental conservation is emphasized in all steps of our manufacturing process and extends to other aspects of our business.

In the Spring of 2007, Prisma became the first sheetfed and web shop in Arizona to gain FSC Certification. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.

In addition to the prestigious FSC Certification, our conservation efforts can be best segmented and quantified in three distinct areas: Recycling, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.

Usually, we aren’t ones to brag about our company’s accomplishments but even we are  impressed by the numbers.

Prisma’s Recycling Program

  • Recycled 1,689 tons of paper (3,378,000 lbs.)
  • Saved 11,823,000 gallons of water (roughly 18 Olympic-sized swimming pools)
  • Conserved 20,375 barrels of fuel
  • Saved 5,067 cubic yards of landfill space
  • Saved 28,713 trees for alternative use

Prisma’s Energy Efficiency Practices

  • Prisma’s HVAC units and custom designed ventilation systems reduces energy consumption by 15%
  • Our Trip Reduction Program saved 1,082 commuter trips by employees using alternative modes of transportation
  • Due to its quick make-ready and two-sided print capabilities, Prisma’s Akiyama Jprint Press expends roughly 50% less energy than traditional presses

Prisma’s Sustainability Program

  • FSC Certification
  • Vegetable & Soy-base Inks
  • Smoke-Free Premises Program
  • EPA VOC Deposal Monitoring Program
  • OSHA Safety Training Plan
  • Salt River Project E-61 Plan (with the goal of reducing 1.7% energy usage per year)
