Choosing a print partner today means more than comparing quality and turnaround time. Increasingly, businesses want to know where their paper comes from — and whether the company producing it is accountable for the impact.
That’s a hard question for most printers to answer with confidence. Paper supply chains are complex, and without a verified system in place, claims of “sustainability” can be difficult to back up.
Prisma has taken a concrete step to answer that question: Prisma is now FSC (Forward Stewardship Council) Chain of Custody certified.
The certification tracks wood fiber from its original point of harvest all the way through to the finished, printed product — a more rigorous standard than recycling alone, which still relies on chlorine and other harsh chemicals. For clients, that means a direct, verifiable link between the paper on their project and responsibly managed forests: sustainable harvesting, wildlife and stream preservation, biodiversity protection, and legal logging practices.
“FSC certification was the next logical step for us,” said Robert Anderson, President of Prisma.
“We’ve spent years building our internal Sustainability Program — reducing power consumption, recycling excess production materials, and properly treating and disposing of the chemicals used in printing. This certification builds on that foundation.”
–ROBERT ANDERSON, CHAIRMAN OF PRISMA
That program now touches nearly every part of the business. Most inks used are vegetable-based rather than petroleum-based. Our facility runs on high-efficiency HVAC and up-duct systems, and even the front office uses low-wattage halogen lighting.
“Taking responsibility for our environment matters to us. Earning FSC certification is another step toward our goal of becoming a fully green printer — and we’re glad to have it in place for our clients.”
–ALAN MCABEE, DIRECTOR OF SAFETY
For businesses evaluating print partners, that gives one more thing to check off the list: a certified, traceable supply chain behind every project.
